⚓️Anchored

As a Sailor, anchors have always fascinated me: the ability to “drop anchor” and halt a massive ship is powerful!

Perhaps the author of Hebrews 6:19 understood this amazing truth when he penned that hope is an “anchor” for our souls.

Having experienced various disappointments, difficulties and hardships- I know all too well the challenges of sustaining hope amidst a grim reality. But I’ve learned that hope doesn’t deny that reality- it simply chooses to cling to a more comforting and steadfast anchor.

What you choose to anchor your hope to in 2024 will determine whether you sink, survive or thrive in the ever changing currents and riptides of this life.

There was a season in my life when toxic relationships, alcohol and netflix were my anchors. Maybe for you it’s been drugs, promiscuous behavior, excessive spending, or even work. We have all fallen short of God’s glory at some point and anchored ourselves to people and habits that offered the false promise of safety and satisfaction.

But one thing I know for sure is this: God’s word will never fail! He will never leave me or forsake me. Christ alone is our anchor- all else is sinking sand.

I pray we enter 2024 with fresh hope and expectancy. That we use this new beginning to anchor ourselves in the truth of God’s word and embrace His good plans for our lives, plans for a hope and a prosperous future, not destruction according to the Prophets words in Jeremiah 29:11.

Read: Hebrews 6:19

Reflect: What would it look like to anchor yourself in Christ this year? Maybe downloading the YouVersion bible app is a good first step. Joining a local church or e-group. Perhaps carving out time for daily prayer and meditation.

Pray: God, I confess that at times I have clinged to people and habits that only pushed me farther away from you. This year, I commit to anchoring myself in the truth of your word and to break free from the lies and false agreements of my past. My hope is in you. Help me to move from merely surviving to a life of thriving according to your promises that you came to give me a rich and satisfying life- as I follow you. I offer this New Year to you and invite you into my heart. Align my thoughts, habits and the work of my hands to that which please you. When the waves of this life threaten to engulf me, help me to grab hold of your perfect word and to anchor myself in you alone. Amen.

Anchored in Him,

Adonica
